The Middle & Lower Cape is made up of the towns of Barnstable to Orleans on Cape Cod Bay and Hyannis to Chatham on the Atlantic. It is very diverse despite its very small geographic footprint. The bayside offers deep, long flat beaches filled with rippling sand, tide pools, grounded boats and unique rock formations. The Atlantic side is more populated resulting in more lighthouses, piers and harbors. In-between there are stretches of land with scenic ponds, marshland and historic villages. Few places in the US offer a 30-minute drive between amazing sunrises and dramatic sunsets like the Middle & Lower Cape. Thirty miles off the cost is the island of Nantucket, considered one of the most beautiful places in the world. Because the main access is by ferry from the Hyannis, it is included in this section.

The Outer Cape is the most remote section running from Eastham to Provincetown. It is a unique and diverse photographic venue. It’s location from the “elbow” to the tip of Cape Cod is made up mostly of the National Seashore until you get to “P-Town” on the tip. This on the accounts for its fishing tradition which continues today, but it has the natural beauty that also made it a magnet for writers and artists dating back to the 1890’s. As a result, there is a mix of beautiful landscapes, fascinating structures and eclectic people.

Central Massachusetts is primarily rolling hills, woodlands and farms east of the Berkshire Mountains and west of the Greater Boston, North Shore and South Shore areas along the coast. While not as well known as some other areas of the state, it has a great deal of scenic opportunities around the Wachusett and Quabbin Reservoirs mixed in with many historic New England towns like Worcester, Lawrence and Lowell.

One of the most photogenic cities in North America. A wonderful mix of colonial and 21st century architecture. From the North End to Beacon Hill to the Back Bay, Boston retains its New England charm and personality.

A mix of smaller cites and towns north and south of Boston. On the North Shore town like Marblehead through Salem provide beautiful architecture and coastline scenery. Farther out are the are the old fishing towns of Gloucester and Rockport that still support an active fleet and timeless way-of-life while closer to NH is Newburyport/Plum Island. On the South Shore, the coast line starts to resemble Cape Cod with more beach like communities of Scituate, Plymouth and Onset. The final stretch of the coast line lies on Buzzards Bay and offers the most remote location between the old fishing towns of New Bedford and Fall River.

All seasons are beautiful, but the region is know for the fall foliage especially in White Mountains along the Kancamagus Highway on the southern side as well as along small rural highways and backroads that connect the small mountain towns.

Southern New Hampshire is a mix of the Lakes Region, rolling farm land and small industrial towns connecting the state with the Atlantic Ocean along 18 miles of rugged coastline.

Quaint villages tucked in the mountains make this ideal for landscapes as well as scenic Americana shots. All seasons are beautiful, but the region is know for the fall foliage especially in the Green Mountains with Highway 7 splitting Vermont right down the middle.

Western Vermont south of Lake Champlain is dominated by the by dairy farms almost down to the Massachusetts border. Numbering in the 10,000”s in the 1950’s, there is less than 1000 today. The few that are left along with the ones left behind provide a landscape more resembling the Plains states than New England.

The rocky coastline, secluded beaches and the city of Portland make for ideal landscape photo locations. Some of the most beautiful lighthouses in the US dot rocky outcroppings from Nubble and Portland Head Light while Ogunquit and Old Orchard have deep, flat beaches that stretch for miles.

Clearly the New England state that I have spent the least time in, but ones that I have discovered some real treasures like the sunflowers at Buttonwood Farm, the pet cemetery at Harkness State Park and Old Saybrook Lighthouse

Most of my time has been spent in North Florida in the Saint Augustine area. This region is a wonderful mix of beaches, wildlife and history. 

I have been to is Ricketts Glen State Park which contains 23 waterfalls in a 3.2 mile hike. If you are a waterfall lover, this place must be on your list. Southwestern PA and West Virginia offer some beautiful mountain venues.

The home of some of the most famous national parks including Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands and the Grand Canyon as well as many state parks and scenic venues. A large portion of the geography is under the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) where the Wave and other amazing formations are located. Few areas of the world offer as many photo opportunities as Arizona and Utah.

Few areas are as beautiful or as diverse with miles of dramatic coastline, grand mountains and vast deserts as the Western US. Two of my favorite national parks are in California and could not be more different, Yosemite and Death Valley. The Pacific Northwest has everything from rain forests to high desert. Travel California, Oregon and Washington for an unlimited variety of landscape opportunities. 

The landscape photographer's paradise with waterfalls, glaciers, geysers, volcanos, rugged coastlines and awesome beaches. Add to that mix charming architecture, wonderful people, horses and sheep everywhere you look and weather that changes by the minute,  With as many subjects both grand and small, I hope to go back soon. 

The Emerald Isle is just that, green everywhere. From the beautiful coast line, to the castle ruins to the coastal islands, it is no wonder Game of Thrones did so much filming here. The west coast of Scotland is even more wild than Ireland’s west coast.

Filled with windmills, canals, bicycles and tulips, this country is a wonderful place to photograph. Add to this wonderful people and a great quality of life and your have the formula for a delightful place to visit

Shots from my trips to southeast China, the home of the cormorant fisherman of the Li River, the rice terraces of Longji and the city of Guilin and Hong Kong/Vietnam where we traveled to Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Phong Nha and Ha Long Bay
